Just had a lady calling me with a foreign Chinese/Korean accent saying that our 'BT contract is coming to an end' and would we like to 'update'?
When asked where this BT caller was calling from she replied 'What does my location have to do with anything?' after persuing the question, she finally replied 'Bromford - Essex'!
Left the number 0800 731 0114 and a reference she hung up.
What a joke.

Just had the same. Looked at our last bill and found we have paid up to Feb. Tried calling the number foreign woman left ( who had told me also she was in Romford) and no answer - I had withheld our number. I suspect the scam is to have us sign up to another broadband provider but which one?

This is a BT number, if you have any future queries, ask the caller for their EIN (Employee Identity Number) - You only have one of these if you work for BT. If they stuggle to give you this then ask to speak to their manager.

Many thanks

Definite Scam, being covered up by fake posts above saying that it's genuine.

They are not BT. They say they're BT but they're not.

Several times I asked them "Do you work for British Telecommunications", to which they replied "yes, we work for BT" - they wouldn't say British telecommunications despite speaking perfect English.

So I went through with it for the hell of it. They had the wrong number for me (which I confirmed as the correct number), and their security question was "Who is your broadband provider" - which is just idiotic. They asked me for my email address at the end. I said "you can use the one on file", they asked if if was the BTconnect email address, I just said yes. I guess they couldn't figure out the full address because I never got an email confirmation for the order.

I phoned them back and there is no phone system, it was just straight up answered. That alone is something you'll never have with BT.

Ignore the post above, works for the same company, trying to cover their asses. A BT employee will never post without identifying themselves fully.

I've just taken a similar call from someone named Chuck. When asked for a specific renewal date he was unable to provide an actual date, and gave this No and a reference No that isn't a BT reference No!

This company is called DMSL. DMSL is the number one partnership of BT. They even have there own website with all of there emloyees names written on it. I resigned my BT broadband with this company 2 weeks ago, and have not received any trouble. I received a confirmation email within 2 days of speaking to them. They even provided me with secure information, such as my account number and my site address. They could answer my questions immediately, and I spoke to someone from the UK. I have trusted DMSL, therefore im sure you can all too.

Just taken a call in the gallery from "BT" advising that our broadband deal is coming to an end and that they are offering me a fantastic new deal - paying less per month plus free landline calls.

In order to finalise the "deal" the caller was about to put me through to her colleague and I was to give her my direct debit details!!! All very plausible...said I wouldn't give them any such information over the phone, so she gave me a phone and ref number to call back.... 0800 731 0114 - googled it and this is a scam - no surprise there!! BEWARE!! xx

I am the Managing Director of DMSL and would just like to confirm our position. We have been a BT partner for over 10 years marketing BT products and services to the SME Market Place. All orders placed via ourselves on behalf of customers are contracting directly with BT on the standard BT terms and conditions. For more information on BT partners please visit http://business.bt.com/bt-authorised-partners/. If you have any concerns please contact me directly on the above freephone number or on 0170875655 or visit our website at www.dmsluk.co.uk.

John, How can you and your abhorrent company justify pretending to be BT, then changing that "Representing BT" then changing that to a partner? It wasn't until I demanded that the caller tell me my BT account number that he declared he wasn't actually from BT.

I have to say, companies with "business models" like yours are the lowest form of scum.

@John Carter, why don't you publish the 0800 731 0114 number on your website.
If all companies did this, rather than people Googling the number and arriving here, they would land on your website and less confusion would arise.

Had several calls from these recently. A guy called David who is a bit pushy. They describe themselves in calls as BT but they are not BT. They appear to be a company called Direct Market Services Limited (Company no. 0344855) and are an 'agent' of BT. It appears to be a genuine company that is trying to run under the BT blanket and portray itself as BT to make you feel you have a safety blanket.

They knew too much detail about our BT setup so clearly BT are giving this information away to all its 'agents' which I find irresponsible.

It's up to you whether you want to do work with a company that doesn't have enough pride in itself to tell you upfront who they actually are. We won't.
